What happens on the tour

Steve meets the group at the dairy before taking you through the working areas of the building.

Along the way, you’ll see where the milk comes in, how the process changes from room to room and some of the decisions cheesemakers have to make long before anything reaches the tasting table.

More from inside the dairy

One room is cold enough that you’ll be glad you brought that extra layer. Another contains thousands of maturing cheeses.

There are questions, photographs, the occasional terrible cheese joke and usually at least one thing somebody spots that sends the conversation somewhere unexpected.

The final part of the visit is seated: five cheeses, side by side, with Steve talking through what you’re tasting and why they are different.

The five-cheese tasting

The cheeses change, so I won’t tell you exactly what will be on the table.

What I can tell you is that you’ll taste five, compare them together and probably discover that the one you expected to like most isn’t always the one you end up choosing.

There’s no test, no correct favourite and no need to know anything about cheese before you arrive.

Sunday tour questions

Will we see cheese being made?

Sunday tours give you access to the dairy rooms, but cheese is not normally being made on Sundays. If seeing production in progress is important to you, ask about a private visit on a production day.

When should we arrive?

The tour starts at 11am. Please arrive at 10:45am and allow around two hours.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing, sensible covered shoes and a light extra layer for the cooler dairy rooms.

Can children come?

Children of all ages are welcome with direct adult supervision. The working dairy route includes steps, standing and cold rooms; pushchairs are not suitable for the full route. Read the family guidance.

What about dietary or accessibility requirements?

Please contact us before booking. Our practical guide explains the route and tasting.

Can I use a gift card?

Enter your gift code and select Apply voucher. You’ll see the deduction, remaining amount payable and any balance left after booking. New cards hold monetary value for 12 months; legacy cards retain their original terms. Contact us for help with an existing card.

Can I change or cancel my booking?

With at least 48 hours’ notice, you can move to another available date or request a refund. With less than 48 hours’ notice, or if you do not attend, bookings are normally non-refundable; we may make an exception at our discretion.

If Cheese Tours cancels your visit, you can move to another available date or receive a full refund. Approved refunds are normally processed within 14 working days. Your bank or card provider may take additional time to show the funds.

Cancelling a booking does not mean its refund has been processed. We’ll confirm the refund status separately.

What if my preferred date is unavailable?

Choose another available Sunday or ask us about your plans. A date is not reserved until the booking is confirmed.
